Terror in Tochigi

An agent of RSE under the alias Lotus has gone missing in the far reaches of the Yanxia province. A search and rescue part is being dispatched to uncover the location of the agent and resolve the issue they were originally supposed to rectify. The town of Tochigi lies within a remote location in the East which has been deemed extremely hospitable due to the local Viera population and the heavy presence of Yanxian Tigers. Airship travel has been halted to prevent damage to company property; however, they will remain close enough and on standby while the rest of the trip must be done by foot. The region is famous for white gold, better known as Tochigi Rice. The region is a luxury good quite literally equivalent to the value and weight of gold. As of late, there has been a decrease in the production and export of goods which will lead to a disastrous loss in revenue unless the problem has been solved; however, there have been rumors of the village being haunted.

Advantaged Skills:Perception | Investigation | Persuasion

Disadvantaged Skills:[???]

Byakubu
Eastern La Noscea (21.1,26.6)
Raincatcher Gully

According to these stories, the forest of Yanxia is guarded by mystical spirits and ancient creatures, and the harmony of the village depends on maintaining a respectful distance from these beings. Strangers are regarded with suspicion, and entering Tochigi without a proper introduction or invitation can be met with stern resistance. Despite their initial hesitance, if an outsider proves their intentions to be respectful and sincere, the villagers might gradually open up.Byakubu is an older gentleman what some would consider to be a village elder. They would be rather tall if it weren't for their posture in tandem with bronze or tanned skin, a result of years or decades of tending to the rice patties. Surprisingly muscular in his appearance, his voice was husky, but it was filled with a certain and youth and vigor. Out of the entire village they seemed to be more amiable and less timid.

Page 2

Trekking Through the Jungle

As the party arrived their feet were worn, muddy, and damp. How long had they traveled through the dense vegetation and forests of Yanxia, who on Hydaelyn. A remote town nestled deep within the wilderness, even dirt trails were a welcome sight opposed to the trampled and trodden bamboo and grass that they had cut through on their way to the village of Tochigi. What was supposedly a couple hours by foot, felt like months in the damp and dirty jungle. The air was heavy and laden with humidity which clung to the clothes on their backs and equipment they bore, which only grew more damp as the soft rains poured down, trickling through the leaves. The only source of light being the morning sun's rays penetrating through the canopy of leaves. A pungent earthy smell permeates the jungle, a mixture of decaying vegetation and rich musk of the forest floor.A scent that hinted at the cycle of life and death, mushrooms sprouting out of the bones and husks of animals and foliage. Navigating the vines that dangled from above and undergrowth riddled with overgrown roots and fallen branches and obstacles at every turn. It’s as if the jungle conspired against them as a veil hiding its secrets within. Was the village a myth, or were they sent on a wild chocobo chase?

Arriving at Tochigi

Tochigi is a typically a lively and boisterous town, where laughter and cheer echo through the lush foliage, but it all fell to silence as the party came into view. The villagers are deeply bonded by generations of shared history, as they seemed tightly knit amongst each other, fostering a strong sense of community and warmth that was witnessed on their arrival. The town nestled within the confines of a valley, it did well to provide shelter for the town.
The steep faces of cliffs shielded the town from the torrent of downpours during the current rainy season. Its inhabitants mastered the art of sustainable living, relying on the forest's resources to meet their needs. They are skilled gatherers and cultivators, their lives intricately intertwined with the rhythm of the forest.
Traditional craftsmanship is highly valued, and one can find exquisite wood carvings, delicate textiles, and ancient pottery decorating their homes. However, for all their vibrancy and hospitality, the villagers are known to be extremely wary of outsiders. Their cautious demeanor is rooted in centuries-old legends and beliefs passed down through generations.
After finally arriving The party is to investigate the area to resolve the issue of the decreased production of Tochigi Rice, and discover what happened to the missing agent Lotus. It may be best to begin with Lotus' contact, Byakubu.

Page 3

The party has been directed further out into the jungle where it remained quite a ways away from the main village. Byakubu has volunteered another villager as a guide to lead the party to the rice fields. The acidity of the soil has proved to be the best place to cultivate the crop but has been primarily neglected as the locals have refused to venture out even during the daytime. As a result, they have been tasked with buying time by tending to the fields and tasks to buy time or solve the issue at hand. Would it be better to divide and conquer to finish with haste, or travel as a group?

  • (1) Repair the dam

  • (2) Till soil

  • (3) Slash and burn

The forest is strangely devoid of life and sound within this region, those who would be aware are easily privy to the silence as they enter the area. Porous stone in the earth below dampens the noise emitted, and the sense of solitude is overwhelming as they make their trek to the rice patties. Only noises whose origin was in sight seemed to be heard.

!!!

A tiger of monstrous proportions appeared once they had arrived taking their guide by surprise. With a single pounce as it grabbed the man by the nape with its massive jaws it dragged him effortlessly into the overgrowth letting loose a low growl as it faded into obscurity. When they arrived at the aforementioned location, their task was clear; however, the path back without a guide seemed like a disorienting labyrinth of trees and vines. The fields were surrounded by short fences which hardly provided any sense of security, the black and orange stripes which made their presence apparent for mere seconds could easily step over them with a single stride. It seemed far larger than the average tiger, and it seemed rather... hungry.

Page 4

Noise

Seeming to have found themselves within the Tiger's hunting grounds, the party has arrived within larger clearings which grew the white gold. The apex predator of the region which has been forged in the depths of the jungle is completely intuned with its surroundings, its strikes well timed and choreographed after living for decades if not centuries which borderlines an auspice.Tasks performed within the area may generate a certain degree of noise which may prompt the Tiger to investigate. While completing their tasks will they evade, hide, repel, or confront a beast fabled to be on par with dragons and written into history?

  • (1) Repair the dam

The dam was unkept and rotted as the mixture of moisture and acidity ate into the panels. Thinly held together with a lacquer to keep the moisture out, various fungi crept their way into the cracks and crevices as a steady stream of water filled the fields within the area. A path was carved through the dirt and into the fields, typically it allowed a gentle flow of water which flowed past the green stalks; however, the current seemed much higher trampling and drowning the white gold near the falls. The sound of the falls do well to dampen whatever little noise travels through these lands.

  • (2) Till soil

The fields in this section are more still; however, they remain empty. The previous harvest was collected and now the remnants remain. In order to ensure an even spread of nutrients the soil must be stirred, the sheer size of the area would make it difficult to complete the task without tools. The villagers may have stored some supplies in the shed overlooking the fields. Aside from the claw marks and paw-sized holes, it seems relatively safe.

  • (3) Slash and burn

Larger trunks of trees litter the ground, young and old all chopped and lay in a neatly assembled pile, the edges of the clearing were flattened and were a fair distance away from the tree line. All that was left was to ignite the flames and let it burn. There may be some supplies and fuel within the shed to torch the wood to ashes. The humidity of the jungle soaks everything within its reach making it difficult for a flame to thrive. Starting a fire here would make a bonfire look like an ember. It would surely attract attention.

The Shed

The Corpse

Upon entry, the metallic smell of blood fills the party's nostrils. A familiar scent for some, but in the center lay a body donning a suit. Familiar as it may be any agent or guard within the premise of company grounds had worn them; however, there were few distinguishing factors between a suit from the company and any other merchant. Large gashes were over the body, and larger chunks of flesh were missing. The face was unidentifiable, mangled, and maimed. At the very least, it seemed to be a quick death.

The Supplies

The shelf within the shed had dozens of pickaxes and shovels, far better than using your hands to till a field. It would still take quite some time to do regardless of the use of tools, far quieter too. Besides it was a machine, with rotating blades at the bottom. Rusted and ill-maintained it still seemed functional enough despite the creaking with each movement, all it required was fuel and it would make short work of the tilling problem. A single container of ceruleum sat on the shelf, enough to power the device or ignite a raging flame.

Private Paradise

Ruby Sea Exports has currently invested in a Private Island off the coasts of Limsa Lominsa. Most if not all have been called to man the effort to establish the island as a storage for RSE products. Utilizing the island as a warehouse of sorts would only help future endeavors. Being mostly uncharted a party is being assembled for a few days to see to the island's establishment as an RSE depot.
